Reflections from Bali: Embracing Perspective for Growth in 2026

While hiking through the jungle, I found myself tangled in judgment.
How clumsy can I be? Why do I feel so unfit?
Those thoughts tightened my body and narrowed my ability to move forward. Fear crept in not because the trail was impossible, but because my perspective was.

Then, in a brief and unexpected moment, a man carrying a bundle of grass balanced effortlessly on his head passed by me with ease and grace. He didn’t pause to question my presence or my ability. He simply continued purposely while grounded, deeply familiar with the terrain.

As quickly as he appeared, the universe offered the insight I needed:
How could I judge my worth on a path I had never walked before?

He moved with confidence because he had traveled that trail countless times…day after day, over weeks, months, years. What felt overwhelming to me was simply life as he knew it.

Perspective is everything.

Shifting my lens changed the experience entirely. Instead of asking, “Why am I struggling?” I began to ask, “Why am I here? What is this moment inviting me to learn?” And in that shift, the path felt lighter not because it changed, but because I did.

That moment invited me to choose what will guide me in 2026. Perspective change is not a goal that one starts and stops like a gym membership. It is a conscious embrace of objectivity, accuracy, and purpose. A daily practice of seeing clearly.

December 2025 set the tone for the year ahead. I had the opportunity of a lifetime to travel across the world to Thailand and Bali for a little under two weeks, a dream that took more than three years to manifest. And as always, timing is everything. I arrived at a moment when I needed to learn more about myself: where I’m headed, what’s calling me forward, and what has been quietly holding me back.

Throughout this journey, I gathered lessons or maybe better stated as insights about navigating life, about the stories we tell ourselves, and about the perspectives that shape our paths. Over the course of 2026, I hope to share these reflections, beginning with this one.

This moment is about the intertwining of perspectives in our lives:

  • Perspective shapes our mindset. It is what we accept as truth, the challenges we take on, and the way we approach them.
  • It underlines our beliefs about ourselves and our understanding of who we are.
  • Our experiences shape our perspective, and our perspective shapes our experiences, creating a constant feedback loop.
  • And when we label ourselves through someone else’s lens, we distort our understanding of our own capacity.

As I continued hiking, the earlier judgments resurfaced: How clumsy can I be? Why do I feel so unfit? Those thoughts tightened my body and narrowed my ability to navigate the path. Fear crept in, not because the trail was impossible, but because my perspective was.

But the insight stayed with me.
How could I judge myself for a path I had never imagined walking?

That shift softened my judgment and steadied my steps. It grounded me in what I truly needed: connection to the earth beneath me, to life in all its forms, and to the energy surrounding me. It was the connection I had been longing for after months of feeling lost. Lost in fears of not being enough for myself, and not being enough for those who needed me to be something else.

I had been wrestling with the conflict between who I am and who I believed I needed to be to walk the path I chose in 2025. A promise made with conviction, but without fully understanding the growth it would demand. Growth in ways I could not have imagined at the time.

In that simple moment on an unfamiliar trail, I realized that judging myself for not yet mastering a path I had only just begun would never allow me to fulfill my purpose or my promise. Nor would it allow me to be the leader, mother, wife, daughter, sister, or friend I envisioned for myself.

My perspective had been shaped by the people I admire, individuals who have accomplished so much in their lives and roles. I measured myself against their journeys.

In 2026, I choose differently.
I choose to assess rather than judge.
To see through a lens that aligns with who I am and who I am becoming.
Because perspective is everything.

Will I allow myself to grow and achieve my dreams, or will my dreams be stifled by fear? Embedded in that question is a truth: there is a choice.
And the choice is mine.

I invite you to choose what will guide you in 2026. Perspective change is not a start-and-stop goal. It is an ongoing invitation to embrace clarity, compassion, and purpose.

Reflection Points to Take With You

  • Pause and reconnect with your purpose whenever you feel lost or overwhelmed.
  • Notice when your perspective narrows your possibilities and ask whether it’s based on your own experience or someone else’s lens.
  • Shift your questions from “Why am I struggling?” to “What is this moment inviting me to learn or become?”
  • Recognize the power of connection to yourself, your environment, and the energy around you as a grounding force.
  • Assess your journey with compassion rather than judgment.
  • Remember that growth often requires embracing discomfort and uncertainty.
  • Choose daily to align your perspective with who you truly are and who you want to be and not who others expect you to be.
  • Embrace the freedom that comes from walking your own path, even if it looks different from those you admire.
  • When fear or judgment limits your progress, consciously choose curiosity and openness instead.
  • See your unique experiences as strengths rather than sources of doubt.
